TTB Religious Investigators
As religious investigators we are finding out about different beliefs and traditions across the world.
Here at Tangmere Primary Academy, we believe that Religious Education supports every other subject in the school, as it focuses on the children’s spiritual, moral, cultural and mental development. Our school vision is…
‘To provide every child with the primary experience that best prepares them for their futures’.
Through the R.E. curriculum, we are teaching the children to become thoughtful, kind and tolerant citizens. We do this by introducing the children to a variety of religions and cultures from around the world. We explore these in detail using fun and exciting educational activities.
Each year group are given three big questions to answer over the course of the year. This starts in Reception Class where questions are all focused on the Christian faith. An example of the Reception Class’s question is:
Why do Christians perform nativity plays?
As the children move through the school they will be introduced to more religions to build their core knowledge. For example in Year 3 the children will be introduced to Hinduism with the question:
How do Hindus want to collect good karma?
Then by Year 6 the children will have explored the six main religions which are Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, as well as having a philosophical look at Humanism. Year 6 will be answering a selection of interesting and thought provoking questions like:
Why do Humanists say happiness is the goal of life?
The children will go through an enquiry cycle starting with engage, enquire, explore, evaluate and express. This allows the children to immerse themselves in the traditions and culture of each religion through games, crafts, discussions and stories.
